Does my nose make me look black?
This series of oil paintings is in response to looking to baby photos and finding ones where I am fascinated by the camera, the flash, and am aiming the camera directly up my nostrils...as I'm sure we have all done as children. It seemed to be a strange investigation, not only on the camera, but of myself, as if to ask if my nose (nostrils) exposed me. In a way, they did...the resulting photos after they had been developed would give me away immediately. No one would have nostrils like mine in the face of the lens in that way. It makes me wonder now, in a retorpsective way if I were asking that of myself and the viewer. Can you tell it is me by the way my nose is shaped?
